Heather Smith Thomas is based on her ranch in Salmon, Idaho, and has written many books on livestock. Heather Smith Thomas raises cattle and horses in the mountains of eastern Idaho and writes for many farm and horse publications. She has written more than 12,000 articles—most of them discussing care and management of horses and cattle—and 24 books. Her latest are Horse Tales: True Stories from an Idaho Ranch; Cow Tales: More True Stories from an Idaho Ranch; and Ranch Tales: Stories of Dogs, Cats & Other Crazy Critters.
